Comment: I had some problems with my cd rw, and just checking some major programs, and I went to repair Drive Image and it tried but was missing some files, should I uninstall and reinstall or just install over top?

Reply: (edit)uninstall XP or just the program? 1) Assuming program first - Installing over the top is an option, but if you suspect a program is malfunctioning it's generally best to completely uninstall the program and also manually browse the registry to remove any left over values. Many times programs uninstall and will not remove EVERYTHING 2) Re-Install XP or over the top? - There are very very very few times that I would ever recommend installing any OS over the top of another. It's just been my experience that the most trouble free is to backup all your files/data to CD/DVD/2nd_HD and then completely format and re-install the operating system. If you suspect that there is a problem the OS you can always try running System File Check first. To do this you open a command prompt and type in: "sfc /scannow" (without quotes). The computer will prompt you to enter the XP CD and will also reboot before starting the scan. It will then compare necessary system files and anything it finds missing/corrupt will be replaced with the version off the CD. Hope that Helps! Michael Live, Love & Google!

Reply: (edit)Thank You, have no problems with operating system, just had the problem with my cdrw and had done a image of drive on cd's and could not read them, so wanted to reinstall drive image thru the control panel but when trying to it said I was missing a few file, so thought it was best to reinstall Drive Image to be safe, so did what you said and uninstalled it first, checked registry then completely reinstalled the Drive Image program, so fine now. Thanks for the information.
