Comment:

When I use Drive Image to make an image backup of my NTFS XP partition I get an Error #91 - Disk Manager type error. I am imaging to a 20Gb FAT32 partition on the same physical disk.

PQ's site says I should make a backup of Head 0 and send them the file to modify and then restore but, to be honest, I am concerned that I will muck, or they will muck up my pc and render it a useless doorstop.

Is there anybody out there that can help, pleeeeeeeeeezzzzz. I will appreciate it very much

Errors from 57 to 99 are not included with Drive Image error documentation. I just looked. Sorry I can't help. I've used DI from versions #1 to 5 and any error message I ever got was *never* in the manual.

Did you try turning off background apps before running DI? Boot sector AV protection in CMOS may need to be turned off???

Make sure you have a seperate FA32 partition to image your Drive. You cannot image a partitiion to the same partition (C: to C:) Create another Fat32 partition D: and then you should be able to image C: to D:

Are you trying to burn both partitions to the one image? I suspect that the problem lies in the fact that one partition is NTFS and the other is Fat32. If you tried a seaparate image for each image it may help. I use Drive Image but my partitions are all Fat32 and I have no difficulty. It is fascinating though that the Errors in the manual stop at 56. XPDOC's suggestion is also valid in this case.

G'day all, i use di but have never had to resort to error message list see:

http://www.powerquest.com/support/primus/id817.cfm

Solution: Error 91 Disk Manager has been detected on drive %lu

If Disk Manager is not needed, you can remove its signature from the Master Boot Record using the following command:

FDISK /CMBR

where indicates the drive where the Disk Manager signature is located (for example, 1).

If you are not sure whether Disk Manager is required, backup head 0 using the WRPROG utility. The correct syntax is:

WRPROG /bak head0.dat

The head0.dat file can later be edited, if necessary.

If Disk Manager is on a drive other than the primary master hard drive, you must change jumpers to make it the primary master. This is necessary because WRPROG will only access the first hard drive.

Problem Description:
Error 91 Disk Manager has been detected on drive %lu
Error 91
Error 91 Disk Manager has been detected on drive %lu, but Disk Manager is not running. If you are booting from a floppy, remove the floppy disk and reboot. Press and hold the key as your computer restarts. When prompted insert your boot floppy and continue booting.

Problem Environment:
PartitionMagic
PartitionMagic Pro
Drive Image
Drive Image Pro
DriveCopy
VolumeManager
ServerMagic

Cause(s) of the problem
This is a "first head" error.

Thanx mate,

I saw that but have not resorted to removing stuff from Head0....don't want to muck up me pc. I will try it this weekend. in the mean, I've Ghosted that partition to CDs. Unfortunately, I have problems ghosting to the F: partition. It asks for media and then tells me there is not enough room on the disk.
HEEEEEELLLPPPPP!!!!

Thanx for all the comments guys. I have tried some other option and it worked. Booted my machine with WinME disk and at the prompt inserted a Ghost disk and ran it from there. No sweat!!!

Imaging my drive, sweet as...

just on "norton ghost", it may depend on the version (i have a couple) but when saving the ghost to the harddrive, it will only save, to either of the last three partitions on that drive, and it recoginizes these as c,d,e
