Hi
I have just migrated to linux recently and i must say that it is a very decent os. I downloaded the live cd from the ubuntu site and burned it to cd. When i try to run the cd, everything comes up but there is also the unbearable fan noise. When i boot normally from windows i have a driver istalled to quiet the fan. Is there anyway to do the same for ubuntu because i reall like the system and dont want to give it up for some fan noise.

Thanks

How to control fan speed.

It might be easier depending on how familiar you are overall with Linux to install Synaptic or Automatix & using those type of programs download GKrellM instead.

If you do not have Synaptic or Automatix, I'm sure you have Adept - you could use that to install GKrellM & while you are at it you should install Automatix2 since you are running Feisty.

Pulling up the K Menu & navigating to System will allow you to accomplish this.

and no, you cannot use it with your live CD ... this is for your installed linux distro.

just follow the on screen instructions during the installation.

and here's a comprehensive guide:

however, you should backup you important data.

What you probably hear is the CD spinning. There is no way to avoid this other than installing it on your hard drive.
